According to a recent report by Worksafe, a California-based nonprofit that specializes in worker safety, Tesla’s Freemont, CA plant has a seriously high injury rate – more than 30 percent higher than the national average. Regardless of your occupation or even industry, OSHA® fines can cripple your entire company. We hear it time and time again. Companies who have the best of intentions go under because of on-the-job accidents that are totally preventable.

The question then becomes, how do we prevent accidents, fines, and – most importantly -- loss of life from occurring? The answer lies in employee engagement.

According to OSHA®, the cost of direct workers’ compensation claims is estimated to be around $1 billion per week. Ensuring employee safety can be a challenge, particularly in a non-engaged work culture.

OSHA®, the Occupational Safety and Hazards Administration, announced a number of major changes in 2016. And with just a few weeks left before the New Year, the administration just revealed another biggie for the manufacturing industry. In an effort to further reduce workplace amputations, a number of states are now facing a major crackdown by OSHA®. Will your job be affected? 

As 2016 comes to a close, OSHA® has revealed their annual Top Ten OSHA® Citations list. The list – which is released every October – takes a look at the most frequently cited safety and health violations for the given fiscal year.

We’ve known for quite some time now that Employee Engagement leads to much greater productivity and, ultimately, profits. Now, the latest Gallup data  has proven that companies that have a Culture of Engagement provide much safer workplaces than those that do not.

It turns out that OSHA® -- the Occupational Safety and Health Administration -- shares our beliefs so much that they are now turning to the public for help in identifying safety and health indicators in the workplace.

In this blog -- the second in our series examining OSHA®’s recently proposed rule changes -- we’ll take a look at the organization’s remaining set of proposals. If you missed our last blog, where we summarized the first set of proposed rule changes, you can find it here.

The proposed changes are an effort to modernize OSHA standards, while saving employers millions of dollars per year. Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels says that, if implemented, the new provisions will “help employers better understand their responsibilities, increase compliance and reduce compliance costs."

This blog post will take a look at the first nine of these proposed changes.
